On Saturday, September 4th, NASCAR’s Whelen All American Series is back to orbit the infield in a Salute to Our Armed Forces. The Menu for the event will feature the Western Late Models in Twin 40s, Grand American Modifieds, Street Stocks, Bombers and the Mini Cups. The Speedway would like to take this day to thank all our Men and Women serving in the Armed Forces who make it possible for us to enjoy our freedoms. May God bless them and protect them as they do all of us in the United States of America.
With the Season growing thin and autumn just around the corner, the Championship Chases are becoming much more intense. In the WLM Division, Chad Holman still holds down the Top Spot as he has since early May. But with two nights of Twin-40’s left, Michael Sandoval still has time to negotiate the 53 points that separates himself from Holman. Both are rookies this year, so it’s fingernail-biting time at the Speedway.
In the GAM Division, AJ Ryder has it all but wrapped up with only two races remaining and a 162 point lead over second place, Larry Tankersley. It is mathematically impossible for Tankersley to catch Ryder, but that won’t deter their goals of driving their hearts out to win each race.
In the Street Stocks, Sammy Solari continues to lead as he has all year. With three races remaining on the schedule, young Ben Lewis II still has an outside chance to overtake Solari as he sits only 28 points in arrears, but with Solari’s overwhelming strength, it’s a very tall order for the rookie.
In the Bomber Division, Travis Tucker remains atop the charts, despite some close calls during the year. With three races to go, Tom Dahl has to try to find a way to make up 40 points. It is doable, but without help from the Racing Gods in the form of catastrophic results for Tucker, Dahl just might have to settle for second this year.
In the Mini Cups, Travis Affonso holds service over Cody Johnston by a mere 22 points. These two young drivers have gone back and forth all year, and with four races left on the calendar, anything can, and usually does, happen. This one is a toss-up at this point.
