The New Stockton 99 Speedway Welcomes 99Drift
On Friday, May 8th, 99 Drift took to the surface on the storied venue. Twelve cars of assorted flavors showed up for the exhibition. From Mustang's to Camry's to Nissan's to BMW's, excitement, rubber and gas fumes mingled with the cool breeze and the faint smell of hot dogs in the background.
Johnathan Corvinus, in his #69 Primer/Black NISSAN 240 SX, seemed to be the class of the field on the afternoon. ?It's nice to have a place to do this. At least we don't have to worry about the cops here at the race track,? said the well-mannered 22 year old from Tracy. His roommate and fellow competitor, 21 year old Mike Spring, also of Tracy, driving his #8 NISSAN SR20 Turbo, agreed with Johnathan's sentiments, adding, ?Street racing is exciting because there is a certain freedom without the rules established by the Speedway, but, at the same time, it's great to have a place where we can practice our sport without threat of repercussions.?
There is no doubt Drifting has become a sport in its own right. The consensus among the drivers present this afternoon was that they need more interest from drivers and fans alike in order to survive. Many people at Stockton 99 Speedway happen to agree. So, mark your calenders and come on out to the Speedway on Sunday, May 31st to support these fine young men in their sport of choice. You won't be sorry you did. Drifting starts at 1 PM. General Admission is always $10.
The New Stockton 99 Speedway is located at 4105 N. Wilson Way, ¼-mile west of Highway 99.
